a new breed, the Arabian Mau
Middle East Cat Society (Dubai) proposed a new breed to WCF : the Arabian Mau.

This cat is the shorthair cat from Middle East. It's a natural breed existing for 1000 years who adapted to the proximity of desert.
Nothing very surprising : European Shorthair, American Shorthair and British Shorthair already exist. Why not an Arabian Shorthair. Arabian Mau can confuse with Egyptian Mau...
They are street cats. They can be found in Uniter Arab Emirats, Qatar, Oman, Bahrain, Kuweit and Saudia Arabia. They are desert cats, able to stand hot weather.
It exists in several colors :
- white - the most common color
- black - the less common color
- black and white
- brown tabby - like a blotched bronze mau
- Gray - gray tabby on the back and large white spots on the downer part
This is pretty conform to part of feline population I saw in Cairo.
can we confuse with Egyptian Mau ?
- Egyptian Mau is spotted. Arabian Mau is not.
- most of them have large white spots thar are not allowed in Egyptian Maus

Re: a new breed, the Arabian Mau
when in Djibouti and in Ethiopa(erithrea), we had similar type of "street cats" although lighter colour, quite small, the one I remember especially was more like sand colour than brown like in this picture.
